The Patna police has decided to install 50 more CCTV cameras particularly near shopping malls and spots frequented by women and children for their security.
"Patna already has 127 CCTV cameras. Process is on to install 50 more CCTVs particularly near shopping malls and spots frequented by women and children," Senior Superintendent of Police Jitendra Rana told PTI today.
The Patna SSP said the CCTVs which were installed on ghats of River Ganga during the Chhath festival were with them and would be put up at sensitive points soon.
Rana said the police control room would closely monitor footage of all these CCTV cameras and initiate necessary steps.
The measure is seen as an effort to check incidents of crime against women and harassment of girls at public places.
Rana said besides protecting women from rowdy elements, the CCTV cameras would also help in collecting evidence in the event of other crimes at places near them.
