Pb Assembly pays tribute to Ajnala martyrs of 1857

Punjab assembly today paid tributes to 282 Indian soldiers whose mortal remains were retrieved from a well in Ajnala near Amritsar.
Speaker Charanjit Singh Atwal led the House in paying the tributes to the martyrs who were slained during the mutiny of 1857 by the Britishers and their bodies dumped in a well at Ajnala on the Indo-Pak border in Amritsar district of the state.
Mortal remains of 282 Indian soldiers were retrieved from 'Shaheedan da Khu' well by volunteers of NGOs and Gurdwara management committee since the digging, which was started on February 28 and ended yesterday.
Besides, the House also paid tributes to 27 people, including former speaker Harbans Lal, former minister Harbhajan Singh and former MLA Achhra Singh, who died during the period between the last and present sitting of the assembly.

Among others whose services were recalled included 16 freedom fighters as well.
The House also observed a two-minute silence to pay respect to the departed souls and later it was adjourned for the day.
