The State Election Office today said Flying Squads and surveillance teams will intimate seizures of above Rs 50,000 to the Income Tax department in the the 2017 Punjab polls.
"If a Flying Squad seizes cash above Rs 50,000 it will intimate I-T authorities and they will find the source of the money," said a state election official here today.
A new standard operating procedure in this regard will be followed in the state Assembly polls for the first time, the official said, adding all Deputy Commissioners and SSPs have been informed about the directive.
Earlier, the I-T department's Investigation Wing was informed only when cash in excess of Rs 10 lakh was seized, official said.
The step comes after political parties had expressed concern over the distribution of drugs, liquor and cash to influence voters during Punjab assembly polls.
