CPI(M) leader M Y Tarigami today accused the PDP-BJP government in Jammu and Kashmir of encouraging the atmosphere of intolerance in the state and said the situation is being polarized for partisan political interests.
He also warned people that the activities of Rashtriya Swayamsewak Sangh (RSS) have the potential to destroy the harmony in the state and appealed to them to raise their voice against such forces.
The PDP-BJP government claimed that it was making efforts to establish new bonding between the communities and regions of the state. However, events that have unfolded in recent past have been on the contrary, Tarigami said.
"Be it the issue of beef ban, attack on Kashmiri truckers, vote on Union Territory status for Ladakh or armed parade of RSS in Jammu - the situation is being polarised for partisan political interests by forces hell-bent to divide the state on the basis of region, religion and language," he alleged.
"The aggressive RSS activities in the state have potential to destroy the traditional amity and harmony among people of the state.
"The regional division of the state has for long remained one of the cherished goals of RSS, the ideological arm of BJP. The present government is...Unfortunately encouraging the atmosphere of drift and intolerance in the state," he alleged.
BJP's promise of UT status for Ladakh in its manifesto in the recently held LAHDC elections also reflects "the nefarious designs of this party for regional divide in this state," he said.
