Opposition PDP today condemned the "unprovoked firing" on civilians in Ramban district, saying the human life in the state has been devalued completely as a result of "callousness" of the Jammu and Kashmir government.
"It is unfortunate that rule of law has completely collapsed and the police and security forces that are an important instrument of the state to assist law have become its biggest and most serious violators," Peoples Democratic Party President Mehbooba Mufti said in a statement here.
Strongly condemning what she called "bloodbath" in Gool, Mehbooba said the continued inability of the government to take cognisance of any killing, excess or atrocity has reinforced the impression of the police state, where political leadership and administration are subservient to them.
"This is not in the long term interests of the state and its people and we all must resist it democratically but forcefully," she said.
Meanwhile, Mehbooba also condemned the murderous attack on leading cardiologist Sheikh Jalal by suspected militants at Pampore in Pulwama district.
"Such dastardly and unfortunate incidents only result into tragedies and didn't yield anything in the past as well," she said.
Praying for the speedy recovery of Jalal, Mehbooba said the broadday attack on him reflects the total breakdown of law and order machinery in the state, "where human lives have lost the meaning now".
She expressed her sympathies with the families of two policemen who were killed in the attack.
