His observation came while inaugurating the Tripura State Museum housed in Ujjayanta Palace of the erstwhile Manikya dynasty.
Ansari unveiled a plaque of the museum in the presence of Chief Minister Manik Sarkar and Higher Education Minister Bhanu Lal Saha.
"People without the knowledge of their past history, origin and culture are like a tree without roots. I am sure that this institution will help the people of the state and the region to find their roots as they look forward to a peaceful, harmonious and prosperous future," Ansari said.
The two-storied Ujjayanta Palace spread over about one sq km area served as the State Legislative Assembly till 2011.
New attractions at the palace include a musical fountain installed in front of the main entrance and the night-time floodlights.
