The Mati Utsab is a people's festival and people must know about their various entitlements and rights as available to them at the festival, a senior government official said today.
Literally translated, the Mati Utsab means the 'Soil Festival' and was started by Mamata Banerjee government in 2013.
Mati Utsab provides an occasion for interacting with the people to inform and educate them about the same so that they were well-informed and well-equipped to lead a dignified life, the official said.
Mati Utsab has been so structured as to not just remain merely a cultural extravaganza but to signify the whole spectrum of village life in our country, not to speak of the real flavours of rural Bengal.
The seven-day-long Mati Utsab will be inaugurated on January 28, 2015 by West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee near Panagarh in Durgapur sub-division of Burdwan district.
Over two hundred stalls of various government departments and of the common people as tucked away in a real-looking rural setting amid the village ponds, mini agricultural farms, village huts, below-tree congregations and other created village activities also provide the visitors with a great opportunity to glimpse the life in rural Bengal.
