When the BJP-led NDA was in power, a barrel of oil in the international markets used to cost only 12 US dollars, Scindia told reporters.
The cost of an oil barrel was 84 USD in November last year and right now it had gone upto 132 USD. One-third of the current hike in petrol price would be borne by the oil companies, the second by the government while consumers would pay the remaining one-third, he said.
Despite the recent hike, the Congress-led UPA government is seriously working for the welfare of the common man in the country, he mentioned.
Congress had got blessings of the people in 2009 and hopefully it would get the same in 2014, he said.
