Phase III of the Barapullah flyover, connecting Sarai Kale Khan in south Delhi to Mayur Vihar in east Delhi, will miss its deadline due to hurdles in land acquisition, PWD officials said.
The officials said that a few farmers are demanding around Rs 7 crore per acre of their land to be used for the project, which is "unreasonable".
The Barapullah flyover, which was expected to be completed by October this year, is likely to be completed only next year. The work on the 10-km-long corridor had begun in 2015.
Once the Barapullah flyover Phase III project is completed, it will cut down travel time between Sarai Kale Khan and Mayur Vihar from an hour to an estimated 20 minutes.
"The project will get delayed as a few farmers are demanding around Rs 7 crore per acre for their land which will be used to construct pillars of flyover. The demand is not reasonable because it is higher than circle rates.
"We are also looking for land exchange option so that farmers could be given land in other place. However, a final decision is yet to be taken," said the official who did not wish to be named.
The official said that the total land required for erecting pillars is around seven to eight acres.
Phase II of the flyover, extending the elevated corridor to INA Market and Aurobindo Marg in south Delhi, is also expected to be completed by early next year.
The entire corridor of Barapulla flyovers, which consist of four phases, will be a signal-free stretch for commuters travelling between east Delhi and the Indira Gandhi International Airport.
