The mythological episode from the Mahabharata where Arjuna's son Abhimanyu was trapped and finally killed in the 'Chakravyuh' by the Kauravas, will now be recreated as a play.
Titled 'Chakravyuh', the play that will be staged tomorrow at Kamani auditorium here, is part of a country-wide theatre tour -- Zee Theatre -- organised by Zee Entertainment.
Produced by A Coconut Theatre and Film & Theatre Society, 'Chakravyuh', directed by Atul Satya Kaushik, narrates the 13th day of the epic battle, and Abhimanyu's tragic death in the formation.
The play also discusses some "philosophical questions of life", says Nitish Bhardwaj, who is known for his iconic portrayal of Lord Krishna.
"Krishna has been an irreplaceable part of my life, whether playing it on TV or in front of live audiences. While 'Chakravyuh' explores the killing of Arjuna's son Abhimanyu, it also discusses some of the most important philosophical questions of life," Bhardwaj said.
Organised in association with Maruti Suzuki, the theatre tour beginning here, will travel to major cities including Chandigarh, Ahmedabad, Kolkata, Pune, Hyderabad, Chennai and others.
"'Chakravyuh' is one of our unique offerings which beautifully showcases the glorious battle against Kaurvas. We're excited to present this play to the audiences in Delhi," Sunil Buch, CEO, Zee Talent and Zee Theatre, said.
Other plays that will be staged during the tour include 'Agnipankh', directed by Ganesh Yadav; 'Sir Sir Sarla', directed by Makarand Deshpande; 'The Class Act and The Relationship Agreement', directed by Meherzad Patel.
The dates for rest of the plays are yet to be announced.
