The Delhi High Court today sought the response of Jawaharlal Nehru University on a plea alleging "gross apathy" on its part in the appointment of disabled persons to teaching and non-teaching posts in the varsity.
A bench of Acting Chief Justice Gita Mittal and Justice C Hari Shankar issued a notice to JNU asking it to spell out its stand on the application by an NGO alleging that the varsity did not comply with the Persons with Disabilities Act in the recruitment process.
The NGO, Sambhavana, also claimed that JNU did not follow the guidelines of the University Grants Commission with regard to reservation of seats for persons with disabilities.
In its application, the NGO claimed that in the recent recruitment advertisement issued by JNU, there is not a single vacancy for persons with disabilities.
It sought a stay on the "inappropriate recruitment process" initiated by JNU and a direction to the varsity to issue a fresh advertisement providing appropriate reservation to disabled persons.
The matter was listed for further hearing on March 21.
