Rather, it is the NDA government which has imposed an "economic bandh" on the country through demonetisation, the CPI(M) politburo said.
It urged all opposition parties, trade unions and mass organisations to continue the protest movement to ensure people can use Rs 1,000 and Rs 500 notes for all transactions till the government makes adequate alternative arrangements.
"Prime Minister Modi and the BJP have misleadingly called the national protest day as a Bharat bandh. None of the opposition parties which joined the protest had called for a Bharat bandh. In fact it is the Modi government which has imposed an economic bandh on the country through demonetisation," the Politburo said in a statement.
The hartals (strikes) in Kerala and Tripura were particularly successful because the Left parties mobilised the people to register a powerful protest, it said.
Addressing a 'Parivartan Yatra' rally in Uttar Pradesh a day ahead of the Aakrosh Divas, the Prime Minister had slammed opposition parties for calling the "Bharat Bandh" against demonetisaion, saying the protest was organised at a time when he was trying to root out corruption and black money.
"I am stopping black money and corruption and some are giving call for Bharat Bandh," he had said.
