PM Modi condemns terror attacks in Paris

Calls "news from Paris ... anguishing and dreadful", says India united with people of France

Prime Minister Narendra Modi today condemned the deadly terrorist attacks in Paris that has killed more than 100 people, saying that the "news from Paris is anguishing and dreadful".

"News from Paris is anguishing & dreadful. Prayers with families of the deceased. We are united with people of France in this tragic hour," Modi tweeted soon after the attacks.

France was rocked by multiple, near simultaneous attacks on entertainment sites around Paris yesterday evening that killed at least 100 people and hostages being held in a concert hall.

At least two explosions were heard near the Stade de France national stadium where a France-Germany friendly soccer match was being played, attended by President Francois Hollande.

After the attacks, Hollande declared a state of emergency and announced that he was closing the country's borders. Hollande, who had to be evacuated from the stadium when the bombs went off outside, said in a televised address that the nation would stand firm and united.

Nobody has claimed responsibility for the attack.
