BJP chief Amit Shah met Prime Minister Narendra Modi here amid mounting pressure by Opposition to sack External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj and Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje for their alleged ties with scam-tainted Lalit Modi.
Sources said that Shah, who had gone to PM's residence along with a delegation UP farmers last evening, stayed back and had a detailed discussion with him on Lalitgate.
Shah is understood to have discussed possible damage control measures in the wake of fresh disclosures indicating links of Raje and Swaraj with the former IPL boss.
The sources said Shah is also in touch with RSS leadership on the issue.
While BJP's top leaders have come out in support of Swaraj, they are yet to openly back Raje.
With Opposition pressure building on Swaraj and Raje, BJP veteran Murli Manohar Joshi extended support to Swaraj and visited her residence.
Joshi spent more than half an hour with her.
Raje, however, today cancelled her Anandpur Sahib visit in Punjab where she was to come face to face with Shah during an event on 350th foundation day celebration of the Sikh shrine.
Shah and Home Minister Rajnath Singh have left for Anandpur Sahib to participate in the event.
Meanwhile, Swaraj continued her engagements and called on Tanzania President Jakaya Kikwete, who is currently in India on an official visit.
