At the order of the Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, the Patna Medical College and Hospital has made provision for free vehicles to carry body from the hospital to the venue of last rites or drop that at home.
PMCH Principal S N Sinha has instructed all concerned to ensure the poor got the services of mortuary van free of cost.
He also told to direct nursing staff to intimate the hospital's deputy superintendent who would make all arrangements for the purpose.
The relatives of the dead need to inform the hospital deputy superintendent who would make the arrangement for carrying body to cremation site and if requested would drop it to their home even out of district, Sinha told PTI today.
The money for providing free vehicle service would be borne from the fund of 'Patients Welfare Committee, he said.
The PMCH principal said the facility had started after issuance of order on Thursday last and vehicles dropped a patient to his house at Samastiput and another to Mokamah.
Touched by media reports of poor patients carrying body of their dear ones on shoulder or ferrying it to home on motorcycle for want of money in other states, Kumar had recently said poor would get vehicle service at government cost.
