Poisonous fodder behind blackbuck deaths: IVRI report

Consuming poisonous fodder lead to the death of blackbucks in Lucknow Zoological Gardens, an Indian Veterinary Research Institute (IVRI) report said today.
The blackbucks died not because of some disease but due to poisonous fodder given to them, the report said.
"There was Hydrocyanic acid present in the fodder, which caused the death of eight blackbucks," according to the report.
"We have handed over the report to the Uttar Pradesh government today after going through all the aspects," IVRI Bareilly in-charge Dr A K Sharma said.
The UP government on September 10 had asked the IVRI to probe into the matter after eight blackbucks died in the Lucknow Zoo. So far 18 blackbucks have died since September 7.

Initial autopsy reports suggested severe lungs infection as cause of deaths of the blackbucks.
