Just days after Rs 49 lakh were looted from a bank's cash van, police today claimed to have solved the robbery case with the arrest of four persons and recovery of a major share of the looted amount.
A special investigating team (SIT) arrested the accused after raiding their hideouts in Amritsar and recovered Rs 33.50 lakh of the robbed money, Inspector General of Police Narinderpal Singh said.
A gun snatched from the bank's guard was also recovered from them, he added.
In a daring bank robbery, unidentified armed persons allegedly looted Rs 49 lakh from State Bank of Patiala's Gidderbaha branch after injuring the guard on May 22.
The accused have been identified as Binder, Sukhraj, Harpreet and Kanwarpreet, all residents of Amritsar.
However, three other accused identified as Nanak, Gurdev and Kuldeep, are still at large, Singh said.
