Police arrests Afghan national

Police has arrested an Afghan national for allegedly stabbing another Afghan national and a friend who had helped him escape from police in May.
On the intervening night of March 31 and April 1, Sayed Azmarai was admitted to hospital with multiple stab wounds but he later succumbed to injuries and a murder case was registered at Malviya Nagar police station, said DCP(South) Ishwar Singh.
During investigation, two accused were identified and one of them Mumtaz, an Afghan national was located and arrested.
However, the main accused identified as Hafizulla, also an Afghan national, was untraceable, he said. During interrogation, Mumtaz revealed that Hafizulla had overstayed his Indian visa and had approached the deceased to help him in preparation of his exit documents, said the officer.

The deceased used to work as an interpreter for Afghan nationals and was known to be helpful with emigration issues and was well-versed with the procedures at the office of the FRRO, said Singh.
However, since the deceased expressed his inability to do so, Hafizulla got enraged and along with Mumtaz, brutally stabbed Azmarai to death, said the DCP.

Police then received a tip-off about Hafizulla hiding in Pune. A team was dispatched to Pune and Hafizulla along with another man was arrested from there, police said.
The accused was not alone and was putting up along with another Afghan national Abdulla, said Singh. The lodge records showed that Abdulla had submitted a forged voter I-Card bearing a fictitious name of one Ali Mohd as the proof of identity in taking up this lodge accommodation, said the officer.

Both the accused were produced before a local court and on May 16, they were brought to Delhi. While coming in the train, one of them expressed his need to use the washroom. While the escort party was taking one accused to the toilet, the other one created a ruckus to divert the attention of policemen and both the accused managed to jump out of the train.
A special team was constituted and efforts were launched to track the absconders. Police also declared a reward of Rs 20,000 on their arrests.
Finally on December 9, Police received a tip off about Abdulla being spotted in a house in Jangpura, he said. Police reached there only to find that the accused had escaped.

However, another person, Obebudulla, an Afghan national, was found residing at this address and he was brought for interrogation. Obedullah revealed that Abdulla had come to him through common acquaintances about 20 days ago and also had met a friend in Shakarpur. Abdulla was arrested on the intervening night of December 9 and 10, said the officer.
