ASI Balbir Singh was posted in the Economic Wing of the Ludhiana police commissionerate.
He was caught by the vigilance department team of Mohali while taking the bribe in the court complex.
Singh had sought the bribe for not producing the case record before the court at Fatehgarh Sahib, a Vigilance Bureau spokesman said.
He was taken to Mohali for further investigations, the spokesman said.
