A CPI(M) worker identified as Dinabandhu Sapui has been arrested in connection with the killing of Shibram Naskar by some unidentified men in West Bengal's South 24 Parganas district, police said.
Naskar was returning home after campaigning when he was attacked with sharp weapons by a gang. He succumbed to his injuries at the local hospital, where he was rushed, the police said.
Meanwhile, Chakraborty said he had been "falsely implicated" in the case.
State Commerce and Industry Minister Partha Chatterjee visited Naskar's house and alleged that the CPI(M) had indulged in "politics of murder".
Urban Development Minister Firhad Hakim and Kolkata Mayor Sobhan Chatterjee accompanied the body when it was taken to Naskar's house today after the post mortem.
