Sonsai Paikra was found hanging from the ceiling in the staircase of the barrack at the camp of 4th battalion, station house officer (SHO) of Mana police station Virendra Shrivastav told PTI.
Hailing from Ambikapur district, Paikra was posted here four months back and deputed on VIP security duty, he said.
Preliminary investigation revealed that after having dinner last night with colleagues, Paikra went towards terrace while speaking to someone on his phone.
"When fellow jawans did not find him in the barrack this morning, they started a search and spotted him hanging in the staircase, following which police were alerted," the SHO added.
A case has been registered, he said adding that further probe was on.
