Police today claimed to have cracked two murder cases with the arrest of three accused from south Mumbai.
Acting on a tip-off, accused Rajkumar Rapannan (23), Sunil Kumar (30) and Vishal Padghan (30) were picked up from Gulalwadi area in Girgaon and the interrogation revealed their roles in the killing of two persons, including a minor boy, reported in September 2011 and July this year, said Additional Police Commissioner Krishna Prakash.
Marine Drive police has now placed the trio under arrest in connection with the murder case reported in its jurisdiction in July this year.
According to police, reliable information was received by a policeman at the V P Road police station that a criminal involved in house-breaking incidents would be arriving to Gulalwadi area to meet his associates at 11.30 am on Monday. Accordingly a trap was laid and the three were picked up due to their suspicious behaviour.
During the interrogation, the trio admitted that they, along with three more accomplices -- Rajbhaiyya, Devnath and Raja -- had sodomised a teenager at Patharwadi area in south Mumbai before murdering him and then thrown the body in the sea.
After finding the unidentified body floating in the sea water, the Marine Drive police had registered an accidental death case in July.
The trio has also confessed to a murder reported at N M Joshi Marg police station's jurisdiction in September 2011.
The three accused claimed that they along with three aides -- Siraj, Raj and Karan -- had sodomised a man, namely Vicky, before murdering him in the defunct Shakti Mills compound in Lower Parel. The six accused had beheaded the victim and then thrown away his head and the torso at different places, police said.
With the arrest of the three accused, names of six more culprits involved in the two murder cases have emerged and the hunt for the wanted accused is on.
