Acting on a tip-off on the presence of GNLA cadres in the state capital for quite sometimes, special teams were deployed to keep track of suspicious persons, East Khasi Hills SP M Kharkrang said.
In the process, one Tuseng S Sangma, a resident of Bokhongre village in Phulbari area of West Garo Hills district was detained from a house in Pohktieh at around 5:30 pm, the SP said.
From his possession, 11 brand new mobile hand set, a camouflage uniform besides cash Rs 17,500 was seized, Kharkrang said.
The GNLA is a proscribed militant organisation active in all five Garo Hills district and is known for their notorious criminal acts of kidnapping, extortion and killing of both civilian and security forces.
Formed in the fall of 2010, the outfit is being led by self styled c-in-c Sohan D Shira and jailed chairman Champion Sangma, a former police officer.
