The Palghar rural and Thane city police together detected a case of a youth's murder which took place in Wada in August this year and arrested one accused, while a manhunt has been launched for two others, police sources said here today.
Police inspector Sanjay Hazare of the Wada police told PTI that it was on August 29 that the police received information of an injured youth lying dead on the road, supposedly due to a road accident.
Accordingly, the police had registered a case of accidental death, without having any clue that the youth had died on the road between Wada and Manor near the toll booth, the inspector said.
At the same time, the victim's parents who had started searching for him had registered a complaint with the police, only to learn that their son's body is in the Thane civil hospital morgue.
Later, the boy's relatives gathered that he had in fact, been picked up by three people from near his house, the earlier day, taken on a motorbike to Wada, beaten up and then thrown on the road.
On November 18, the Wada police registered a case of murder against the three people and transferred the case to the Thane city police.
The Wada police had registered a case under Section 302, Section 364, Section 201 read with Section 34 of the Indian Penal Code and transferred the same to Kalya's MFC police station for a further probe.
Based on the complaint, the Kalyan police arrested one Parvez Bamai and a hunt is on for two others, the police said.
Police identified the victim as Wasim Noor Mohammad Memon (26) and added that they are trying to find out the motive behind the abduction and killing of the youth.
According to the police, the victim's father was a fruit vendor in the Kalyan township.
