Police have made only two mistakes so far: Mamata

She said police made mistakes at Loba village in Birbhum district where policemen clashed with villagers last month and at Tehatta in Nadia district where one person had died in police firing.

"The nature of their work is very sensitive. When they go wrong they get all the blame. But I request people to praise them for their good work also," Banerjee told a police function here.

"I have never believed that the entire police force is bad. They brave rain, winter, fire and all kinds of adverse situations," she said.

Banerjee, who is also the Home minister, said that efforts were being made to provide housing, hospitals and model schools to them.

Asking the police to submit projects to her in this regard, she said "I will clear them immediately."

After coming into power last year, the Trinamool Congress had established four police commissionerates in the state. Other states were now trying to follow the model, Banerjee said.
