In the wake of a spate of murders in the city, police have intensified patrols and arrested over 150 rowdies in the last two days.
As many as 161 rowdies, including those wanted in pending cases, have been arrested on Friday and Saturday, a City Police release said, adding 77 persons were yesterday detained for drunken driving.
Further, police are holding enquiries with motorists and pedestrians who are on the road after 11 PM and in 'suspicious cases', individuals' details were being recorded.
Locked homes were also being monitored while police were quickly attending to emergency calls to police control rooms, it added.
Commissioner T K Rajendiran himself went around different parts of the city starting 11 PM yesterday and 5 AM today and supervised night patrolling operations, it said.
He witnessed vehicle audits and also made checks at four police stations and advised policemen.
The Commissioner has also ordered more steps to check crime incidents following which night patrolling has been increased, it said.
Last week, killing of five women, a techie and four others in two different incidents, had sent shockwaves across this otherwise peaceful city, prompting the civil society to demand for more policing.
