Police register 90 cases against drug peddlers in Sirsa

The police in Sirsa have registered 90 cases and arrested 139 people during an ongoing campaign against drug peddlers in the district.

Acting on the directives of Haryana DGP B S Sandhu, Sirsa Police officials said a crackdown was launched against smuggling of narcotics in the district, especially in the areas bordering Rajasthan and Punjab.

Sirsa district is situated at the tri-junction of Punjab, Haryana and Rajasthan.

"The police have registered 90 cases and arrested 139 people till yesterday since the launch of special campaign on April 26 against drug peddlers," a spokesman of police department said here today.

He said that a large quantity of narcotic substances including 13.180 kg opium, over 3.227 kg heroin, 59.5 gram smack, over 15.99 quintals of poppy husk, 52,272 pills and 2000 intoxication capsules, 638 gram drug power and 24.160 kg ganja were seized from the possession of the arrested accused.

Sirsa's Superintendent of Police, Hamid Akhtar has been taking stern action against the people involved in smuggling of narcotic substance, the spokesperson said.

Village panchayat of Sherpura in Sirsa is also supplementing the efforts of the police to deal with drug peddlers and drug problem, he claimed.

The village panchayat at a meeting yesterday decided to appeal those youth who may have fallen in the drug trap and asked them to volunteer and seek help. It also decided to socially boycott those found guilty of dealing in drug trade.
