As a controversy erupted, police said the complaint was accepted by "mistake" and blamed the Youth Congress activists for creating a "misunderstanding" and obtaining the receipt for registration of the complaint.
Mukesh dismissed the complaint as a "joke" and said he was very much present in the constituency.
Taking a dig at the Youth Congress activists, he said he had gone to take a membership in the 'Rahul Club', apparently referring to Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi's sabbaticals.
They alleged that the debutant MLA had not visited the district collectorate even after a country-bomb went off there recently and did not attend a number of other significant programmes held here.
Police, at the West Station here, had accepted the complaint without verifying it and gave a receipt for that, triggering a controversy.
The CPI(M), heading the ruling LDF, has now approached the police higher-ups against the act of the West Station police.
"It was mistake. The complainants created a misunderstanding and managed to collect the receipt," he told PTI today.
"They lodged the complaint, addressing the sub-inspector and demanded the receipt. As it is a usual practice, the police personnel on duty gave the receipt. The officer should have verified the complaint before giving it," he said.
