Police registers case against star hotel for keeping Iyer

The Odisha police has registered a case against the star hotel that provided accommodation to P K Iyer, vice-chairman of the Deccan Chronicle group who was arrested by the CBI in connection with a Rs 357-crore bank loan fraud case.
"A case has been registered against the hotel on the charge of providing accommodation to the most wanted for months without properly verifying his identity," Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Satyabrata Bhoi said.
Police had arrested Iyer from the hotel in posh Nayapalli area on Friday night. Earlier, he had stayed incognito in Kolkata and Port Blair before coming to Bhubaneswar, sources said.

The police said the hotel authorities failed to verify information about a person before providing him with a room in the hotel, which is illegal and in violation of provisions in Sarais Act and Section 188 of Indian Penal Code, the DCP said.
Iyer was staying in room which was booked in the name of Chitra Athwani since May 17.
Meanwhile, the hotel authorities said that they were not aware about Iyer being listed as the "most wanted" by the CBI. The room was booked in the name of Athwani who was also present when Iyer checked in, they said.
