Inspector General of Police, Kashmir,, S M Sahai has written to Divisional Commissioner Kashmir not to use police stations as LPG distribution points.
"I am sure you'll appreciate that the police stations have to discharge the sensitive task of maintenance of law and order and also attend to other sensitive issues," he wrote to the Divisional Commissioner.
He also pointed out that the police station premises cannot be crowded with people and LPG cylinders as they have to use the available space for police station and work staff as well.
"You may consider directing the Deputy Commissioner, Srinagar, to modify his order and identify new points of distribution for the purpose," the letter read.
In response to a direction by the Deputy Commissioner for filing of LPG related complaints on police helpline number, Sahai asked for the presence of officials of consumer affairs and public distribution department (CAPD) and also those of oil companies in the police control room to attend to such complaints.
The District Administration had sought to use police infrastructure following large scale complaints of irregularities by LPG distributors and oil companies in distribution of the domestic LPG.
The state High Court has also initiated suo motu proceedings after noticing that customers had to stand in long queues and wait for hours just to get LPG cylinder.
The residents of Srinagar city have also alleged that gas dealers were unnecessarily harassing them by not accepting request for transfer of connections from one dealer to another or from one person to another.
