Polling of 'postal ballots' stopped due to bogus voting

Polling of "postal ballots" by police personnel who are on election duty, was stopped by the District Collector here today following a complaint of bogus voting.
According to Election Wing Tahsildar T Rathinavelu, the incidence of bogus voting at the Collectorate came to light during the process of voting when some constables who came for polling, found their votes had already been cast.
They were not permitted to vote and a heated argument between the officials and police constables ensued, he said.
Following this, the District Collector-cum-Election Officer, R Kirlosh Kumar stopped the polling process. It will be held in a day or two, sources said.

More than 3,000 postal ballots were issued for Chidambaram and Cuddalore Lok Sabha constituencies for police officers and constables on election duty, the Tahsildar said.
Political parties also lodged a complaint about bogus voting. Congress party candidate, K Alagiri alleged that 71 bogus postal ballots were cast and demanded that the Collector has ordered an inquiry into the bogus voting.
Tamil Nadu goes to the polls on April 24.
