The Bharatiya Janta Yuva Morcha (BJYM), the youth wing of the BJP, today launched the 'Bharat Jodo' (unite India) campaign, with an aim to connect the youth with the "nation-building" process.
The campaign, launched by BJYM chief and MP Poonam Mahajan, comes in the wake of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's call to the party to launch nation-wide campaign to mark the 75th anniversary of the Quit India movement.
"As the 'Quit India' movement was a watershed moment in the history of struggle for Independence, 'Bharat Jodo Abhiyan' will be a landmark in bringing the youth together in the nation building process. We will write a new history with the help of history," Mahajan was quoted as saying in a statement.
Union ministers Ananth Kumar, Kiren Rijiju, Babul Supriyo, Delhi BJP chief Manoj Tiwari and large number of ex-servicemen were present at the programme held at Vijay Chowk, BJYM spokespersons Shivam Chhabra and Rohit Chahal said in a statement.
'Bharat Jodo' aims to put the idea of creating a 'New India', as envisioned by Modi, unified in the quest for development and equality for all, at the centre of India's development agenda, Mahajan said.
She claimed that the campaign is also against divisive forces within the nation, which are threatening the cohesiveness of India.
Mahajan 'outdated violent ideologies" of the West are trying to attach a negative connotation to the idea of nationalism, a pet theme of the BJP.
She handed over 'tiranga' to all the BJYM state presidents and urged them to organise similar events across the country, the statement said.
