Pope Francis will visit a town in southern Italy where a 3-year-boy was shot to death and then set on fire in a crime blamed on drug turf wars among local 'ndrangheta organised crime clans.
The Vatican said Francis will make the one-day visit to Cassano all'Jonio in Calabria on June 21. A few days after the attack in January, Francis expressed horror about the boy's killing when he made one of his Sunday appearances to pilgrims and tourists in St. Peter's Square.
The Vatican today also announced that Francis will make a one-day trip this summer to another underdeveloped southern region, Molise. That trip was set for July 5.
