The violence broke out at Patra village, where tension had been simmering over alleged eviction of CPI polling agents from the local polling booths while parliamentary elections were on in the area yesterday, they said.
Gopiballavpur is under Jhargram Lok Sabha constituency.
The injured were rushed to the hospital and police rushed to the spot to maintain peace, they said.
CPI local committee secretary Bibhuti Mirdha claimed that the injured and the affected were its members and alleged that the attackers belonged to Trinamool Congress, which when contacted denied its involvement in the incident.
