Postal delivery service of PRCs launched in Jammu

People in the Jammu and Kashmir winter capital will now get doorstep delivery of their permanent resident certificates (PRCs).

A special scheme has been customised by the postal department in this regard, officials said Saturday.

After issuance of a PRC, it would be delivered to an applicant within three days by the postal department through speed post, they said.

Divisional Commissioner, Jammu, Sanjeev Verma, who launched the service on Friday, said it will not only provide convenience to applicants but also assure that no fake addresses are used or fake PRCs are applied for.

Deputy Commissioner, Jammu, Ramesh Kumar said an online monitoring system has been put in place for monitoring of the PRC files to bring transparency and accountability in the system.

He said tehsildar concerned would upload the application online with all requisite documents and forward it to the competent authority with recommendation for issuance of the certificate.

"A message service will also be made available for applicants and officers concerned. After dispatch of the PRCs, the postal department will monitor the same and provide daily delivery reports to the office of the deputy commissioner," Kumar said.
