Power discom BSES Yamuna today admitted that a sheet featuring photographs of Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit and her cabinet colleague Haroon Yusuf was attached to the electricity bills, but said it was not done at the "behest of any political party".
Delhi's Chief Electoral Officer had started a probe into the alleged display of pictures of political leaders on electricity bills, and had sought response from the Chief Executive Officer of BSES Yamuna, which supplies electricity in East Delhi.
In its reply to the District Election Officer (East), the discom said that they are removing the pictures from the bills with immediate effect.
"In their reply to the notice, they have said that they have done it on their own and not at the behest of any political party. They also said that they are removing the pictures from the bills immediately," said DEO (East) Krishna Mohan Uppu adding that all the electricity bills issued after October 3 have pictures of many Congress leaders.
He further said that based on the reply they have sent a set of recommendations to the Chief Electoral Office.
The Model Code of Conduct came into effect from October 4 with the announcement of Delhi Assembly poll's schedule.
