The advisory came as maximum number of power cuts due to kite strings getting entangled in power transmission lines are reported in the run up to the Independence Day.
"Residents are advised not to fly kites near electricity installations, including overhead cables and certainly not use metal coated 'manjhas'," the BSES advisory said.
The glass-coated 'manjhas' being a good conductor of electricity leads to trippings and power supply disruption besides electrocution.
The company said there had been 23 incidents of trippings of power supply on the previous year's Independence Day due to kite-flying.
A BSES official said tripping of just one 33/66 KV overhead line can disrupt power supply to over 10,000 residents of an area.
"BSES has been educating RWA's about the perils of flying kites near electricity installations and using metal coated 'manjhas'. In the run-up to the Independence Day, BSES discoms have put their operations and maintenance teams on extra high alert to take care of any contingencies," the official said.
Despite the fact that causing damage to power equipment is punishable under the Electricity Act and the Delhi Police Act, there seems to be little consideration for the law as well as power supply, the official added.
