Pre-monsoon rains, thunderstorm begin in most parts of HP: MeT

Pre-monsoon thunderstorm and rains have commenced in most parts of Himachal Pradesh and conditions are favourable for the arrival of southwest monsoon in the state during the next few days, the Meteorological (MeT) department said.

Light to moderate rainfall occurred over parts of Himachal Pradesh, including districts of Chamba, Mandi, Kangra, Kullu, Solan and Shimla, and widespread rains are expected in the state due to the onset of pre-monsoon, Director of local MeT office Manmohan Singh said.

On June 26 and 27, 2018, rainfall will occur at most places over lower and mid hills and at few places over the high hills of the state from June 28 to 30.

Very heavy rainfall is very likely at isolated places on June 29 and 30, especially in Mandi, Kangra, Shimla, Solan, Sirmaur and Hamirpur districts," he said.

Rains occurred at many places in the state and Chamba was wettest in the state with 26 mm rains, followed by Seobagh19 mm, Kufri 14 mm, Sarahan 11 mm, Dalhousie 9 mm, Udaipur 6 mm and Dalhousie 5 mm.

Una was the hottest in the region with a high of 40.4 degrees Celsius and Dharamsala, Bhuntar and Sundernagar recorded the maximum temperatures at 33.2 degrees Celsius, 33 degrees Celsius and 32.8 degrees Celsius, followed by Nahan 32.1 degrees Celsius, Shimla and Manali 276 degrees Celsius, Keylong 22 degrees Celsius and Kalpa 19.6 degrees Celsius and Solan 30 degrees Celsius.

There was no noticeable change in the night temperatures and Keylong and Kalpa recorded a low of 10.1 degrees Celsius and 12 degrees Celsius, followed byManali 14.2 degrees Celsius, Nahan 18.1 degrees Celsius, Shimla 18.7 degrees Celsius, Bhuntar 20.6 degrees Celsius, Solan 21.6 degrees Celsius, Dharamsala 21.8 degrees Celsius, Palampur 22 degrees Celsius and Una 25.7 degrees Celsius.
