The monolith is located at the top of the hill 'Bahubali Betta,' a pilgrim centre for the Jain community. Karkala was the capital of Jain rulers of the Bhairva dynasty. The Bahubali statue was erected there by the Bhairava King Veera Pandya in 1432.
During the 'Mahamastakabhisheka' ceremony, sandalwood paste, paste made out of medicinal herbs and holy water would be poured on the statue, which could be witnessed by devotees.
The event is aimed at propagating the message of non-violence.
Thousands of devotees are expected to take part in the event.
