President Kalam's and CBI's spokesperson Khan retires

S M Khan, who was considered the face of the CBI for over a decade in the nineties, today retired from service as the Director General of Registrar of Newspapers for India.
The office of Khan during his stint of over a decade with the CBI in the 1990s was the most frequented spot for journalists as the agency had several high profile cases, ranging from Bofors, HDW submarines deal, Rajiv Gandhi assassination, Harshad Mehta securities scam and other white collar crime cases which had started surfacing in the country.
An Indian Information Services officer of the 1982 batch, Khan has served various positions in the government and the Rashtrapati Bhavan, with the longest being that of the CBI spokesperson.

Always polite, Khan used to handle journalists and their queries in his small room in the previous CBI headquarters and had a knack of avoiding controversial questions with a disarming smile.
He was selected by late President A P J Abdul Kalam as his Press Secretary. Khan's tenure ended after Pratibha Patil became the President of the country.
He recently penned his first book "People's President - Dr APJ Abdul Kalam", in which he shared his experiences during and post presidency.
Thereafter, he served the Press Information Bureau as a Director General during which he along with then Minister of Information and Broadcasting Prakash Javadekar released "Press In India".
