: President Pranab Mukherjee will lay the foundation stone for the Dr B RAmbedkar School of Economics here on April 14.
The government has sought the help of London School of Economics (LSE) to introduce programmes, faculty and other facilities, Karnataka Higher Education Minister Basavaraj Rayaraddi told reporters here.
Technical support, in principle, will be provided by the LSE team, he added.
The cabinet has already given the nod to build the institution at an estimated cost of Rs 150 crore in its first phase, Rayaraddi said.
The cancellation of Jindal School of Economics prompted the government to initiate the idea of building Dr B R Ambedkar School of Economics, he said.
"The proposal to open Dr Sitaram Jindal School of Economics in partnership with the Jindal Group by Bengaluru University was put on hold due to stiff opposition from various sections of the society," Rayaraddi added.
The institution will include the main administrative block, student hostels and auditorium, three seminar halls and residential accommodation for regular faculty, he said.
Former IAS Officer Anup K Pujari has been appointed the special officer of the institution, admission of which will commence from 2017-18 academic year, Rayaraddi said.
"We are planning to admit around 50 students for the 2017-18 academic year, but a final decision on the admissions is yet to be taken," Pujari said.
