The Mumbai Press Club has extended the last date for entries for its 'All India RedInk Awards' for excellence in journalism, till March 15.
The Press Club has invited nominations from journalists across the country for best stories in ten categories according to a release issued here today.
Journalists from print, television and digital media had been invited to submit their entries by February 28 for the awards which carry a total prize money of over Rs 20 lakh. However, this date has been extended till March 15.
For the first time in its five-year history, the awards have been expanded to include television and visual stories on par with print and digital media. Separate awards have been instituted for best writing and TV stories in categories like human rights and environment.
A special 'Journalist of the Year' award has been introduced this year. Other categories include business, politics, crime, sports, lifestyle and entertainment, 'Big Picture' of the year, science and technology and health.
For the first time, the Mumbai Press Club has decided to introduce the 'Black Mouth Awards' for those who made the most atrocious incorrect statements or violated boundaries of ethical conduct in public life or proved to be an embarrassment to society during 2014, the release said.
For this category, Press Club Mumbai would not approach those fit to be considered for the awards not ask nominations from their wellwishers, but it would seek suggestions from members of the public who may email their recommendations to Redinkawards@pressclubmumbai.Com.
A qualified jury headed by senior journalist Bachi Karkaria, will shortlist the ten most 'eminent Black Mouths'. The awards will be given away at a function here on April 1.
The RedInk Awards to journalists in various categories would be presented at National Centre for Performing Arts (NCPA) in Mumbai on April 25.
In the past, doyens of journalists including Vinod Mehta, Kuldip Nayar, N Ram and Mrinal Pande have been honoured with the RedInk Lifetime Achievement Award for their long and consistent service to the profession.
