Prez Kovind to inaugurate camp for differently-abled in MP

President Ram Nath Kovind will inaugurate a camp in Gwalior city in Madhya Pradesh on Sunday, when more than 4,000 differently-abled and elderly people will be provided devices to assist them in their daily lives.
The Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment is organising the camp under its ADIP and Rashtriya Vayoshree schemes.
Of the 4,271 beneficiaries, 2,436 differently-abled and 1,835 senior citizens will receive assistive devices such as motorised tricycles, crutches, brail cane, hearing aids, smart phones and daisy players, estimated to be worth Rs 2.88 crore.
ALIMCO, an autonomous body under the ministry, organises these camps every year across India to distribute such devices to people with disabilities and children with special needs.
The ministry has organised 281 such camps in past four years.
Rashtriya Vayoshri Yojna was launched in December 2016 for providing assistive devices to senior citizens from the BPL category and the first distribution camp under the scheme was held in Nellore district in Andhra Pradesh on April 1 last year.
The ADIP scheme has been in operation since 1981 and has been revised with effect from April 1, 2017. The objective of the scheme is to provide assistive devices to differently- abled to promote their physical, social and psychological rehabilitation and to enhance their economic potiential.
