The "bhoomi pujan" of the site was done by Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav and after laying of the foundation stone by the President work for the Rs 300-crore project will start.
The temple project is expected to be finished in the next five years, organisers of the project said, adding, funds had been collected from various corporate houses and devotees of Lord Krishna for it.
Mukherjee will visit Vrindavan tomorrow to attend the 'Anantha Sthapana Puja' at Vrindavan Chandrodaya Mandir. He will also visit the 'Bankey Bihari Mandir' on the same day before returning to Delhi, a statement issued today by Rashtrapati Bhavan said.
The Bankey Bihari temple, Vrindavan is amongst the holiest and famous temples of Lord Krishna in the country.
The organisers will also be attempting to re-create entire ambiance when Lord Krishna was born, besides running a visual 3D show of "Krishna Leela," especially for foreign tourists.
