Prisoners clash in high-security Arthur Road Jail; 5 injured

A scuffle broke out this morning between two groups of prisoners in the high-security Arthur Road Jail at Central Mumbai, leaving five of them injured, police said.
The incident took place at around 8.45 am when Muddassar Ismail Ansari (30), Sarvar Maksud Khan (32) and Suleman Mehmood Patel, all prisoners, allegedly assaulted co -inmates Vishal Chandrashekar Amkar (31) and Murgan Mani Nadar (52), they said.
The inmates used 'kapri' (a sharp weapon made from aluminium plate in which prisoners are served food) during the clash, police said.
Amkar sustained injuries to his both cheeks, chest and left thigh, while Murgan Nadar suffered wounds from his lower lips to chest, police said.

Muddasar suffered injury on his head, while his two groups members, too, sustained wounds, they said.
DCP (Operations) Sangramsingh Nishandar said, "The reason for the fight is being probed."

All the five injured undertrials were admitted to the State-run JJ Hospital, they said, adding jail authorities used force to contain the clash.
Meanwhile, police have lodged a case against the undertrials at NM Joshi Marg Police Station.
All the five are facing separate criminal charges related to murder, robbery, illegal possession of arms and theft, said police.
