Maharashtra Home Minister R R Patil told this in the Assembly, while replying to supplementaries in the question hour to the main question on the murder of terror suspect Qateel Siddiqui in Yerwada jail last month.
The incident was the first of its kind happening in a special cell of any prison.
"We are taking steps to ensure that this does not happen again and will install CCTVs in cells of convicts and inmates involved in serious crimes," Patil said.
He said the government had suspended eight jail officials for negligence in the case and the crime branch investigation was still on. The report will be tabled in the next legislature session, the minister told the house.
