Probe ordered into drug peddler's allegations: Sukhbir

Punjab government has ordered a probe into allegations of harassment of an alleged drug peddler by jail authorities, Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal said here today.
"An enquiry has been ordered and DGP Punjab has been asked to probe drug peddler Jagdish Bhola's allegations of Nabha jail authorities harassing him," Sukhbir, who also holds the home portfolio said here.
DGP Sumedh Singh Saini will look into the matter and would soon present his report, he said.
A section of media had recently reported that Bhola had accused Nabha jail authorities of "unnecessarily harassing" him.
Bhola, who is in jail, was arrested in a multi-crore synthetic drug racket case in 2013 by Punjab police. Responding to a query on rape cases, the Deputy CM said Punjab government has zero tolerance policy towards such heinous crime against women and the DGP Punjab has been asked to deal with these cases very strictly.

On recent civic polls, Badal said the Punjab government has successfully conducted free and fair local bodies elections.

"The SAD-BJP victory in these peacefully conducted elections reiterates the fact that people vote for development and the opposition has no issue to raise," he said.
The state government has zero tolerance policy towards such heinous crime against women and the DGP Punjab has been asked to deal with these cases very strictly.
Talking about the unseasonal rains wreaking havoc on the crops in state, he said that the Chief Minister Punjab Parkash Singh Badal has sought Rs 3,600 crore of compensation from the Centre.

He said, the NDA government has given projects worth hundred crores to Punjab such as the lining of canals.
"In the months to come, we are getting more such funds to unleash unprecedented development in state," he said.
