Prominent mutt seer to campaign for AIADMK
Press Trust of India Chennai Ruling AIADMK today found support from a pontiff of a prominent mutt in Tamil Nadu, who has volunteered to campaign for the Jayalalithaa-led party in the run up to the April 24 polls.
Madurai Adheenam today met Jayalalithaa and said he was ready to campaign for the party to ensure the victory of all 40 party candidates in the Lok Sabha polls, AIADMK said in a statement.
The head of the 1,500 year-old mutt based in Madurai of southern Tamil Nadu has a sizeable following.
The mutt was in the limelight two years back when it annointed self-styled godman Nithyananda as its next Adheenam. But the decision has to be rescinded in the wake of strident protests from mutt devotees.
Even as the Left parties had snapped electoral ties with AIADMK over seat sharing issue, leaders of All India Forward Bloc, Indian Republic Party, Tamil Nadu Kongu Ilaignar Peravai and Tamil Nadu Thouheed Jamath met Jayalalithaa, the release said.
