Brajendra Singh was attending the last rituals of a property dealer last night when at least six men came in a jeep and sprang around 50 rounds of bullets on him and others, SSP Pradeep Kumar said.
Singh died on the spot while four others -- Manoj Singh, Arun Agrawal, Kaushal Pandey and Sankata Prasad Pandey -- have been admitted to BRD Medical College Hospital and are said to be in a serious condition.
Personal animosity is said to be the reason behind the killing, the SSP said.
