Protests break out after pregnant woman is refused treatment

The Kalwa Civic Hospital's refusal to attend to a pregnant woman for want of money and driving her away from the hospital which led to her delivering right on the street due to which her child died, kicked up a row in Thane city today.
Political parties including the ruling Shiv Sena in the Thane Municipal Corporation grabbed the opportunity to register protest.
The issue was hotly debated during the standing committee meeting where hospital superintendent Rajiv Korde told members that an enquiry is being conducted into the entire alleged episode.
In a related development, the women's wing of the Shiv Sena marched to the hospital and gheraoed the dean.

NCP women's wing volunteers also protested at the hospital and later marched to the police station demanding action against the erring hospital staff.
The MNS staged a protest in front of the hospital and demanded action against those found guilty.

Meanwhile, parents of the dead child went to the Mantralaya with the dead child's body and protested.
The couple who had come down to Kalyan from Jalgaon lost their baggage and all their belongings including money while travelling.
It was on the night of March 10 when the couple reached the civic hospital at about 11 pm after which the hospital staff demanded Rs 800 for treatment.

Since the couple was in po position to pay, they were driven away from the hospital.
The unfortunate couple was walking along the road towards Mumbra in the pitched darkness when the lady delivered a male child on the road.
As luck would have it, a rickshaw driver who spotted it, took them to the Mumbra railway station where the couple rested for the entire night, along with the new born.
When they woke up in the morning they found their new born child dead.
In the complaint to the police the father of the dead child demanded that an offence should be registered against the staff of the civic hospital for refusing them treatment.
